Here Kitty Kitty

I was transferring pics from the SD card in my camera when I ran across this one.  It was my last weekend in Minnesota, but I decided to head down to the Iowa border lakes to possibly get into some walleye.  The wind was howlin', so I opted to leave the fly rod in the car.  This guy put up quite the fight on a 5' ultra-light.  Lucky for me there was a guy fishing downstream of me with a big net.  I think he was more excited than me when he scooped up this 10 pounder!

Typical

Halfway through my last week in the land of 10,000 lakes, the warm water species turned on.  Here's some pics from yesterday evening.

The buffalo were spawning along the banks, splashing alongside each other in tight groups.  I had my biggest common carp brought all the way to the bank before it broke the line as I tried to beach it.   A net would have been great.  Luckily this buff's scales were rougher, making for an easy tail grab.

Pulled in my first yellow perch!

I ended up losing 3 big carp, 2 of which I was able to catch a glimpse of, and one that made a beeline for the middle of the lake.  The sun went down, but the fish were still biting.  I decided to grab my headlamp and stick it out for awhile.  It wasn't long before I was fighting this 9 pound, 29 inch common.

Ended the night on this 26 inch buff, also 9 lbs.

It was a great night to chase rough fish!  All within 5 miles of my house.  Heading to Kansas after work on Friday.  Carp beware.

Turkey Hunt from the Archives

Since my blog hasn't been updated in awhile, I decided to pull up this '09 turkey hunt and post it.  One more week in Minnesota before heading back to Kansas for awhile.  Looking forward to chasin' some long beards.
